Lembeh critter

wowzer ... almost looks like a lizard or something buried in the sand !

very predatorial and almost land like to me .. tres cool !

Box crab. You even get them in Cayman, Giles.

Alex

Yep Alex is right, it's commonly known as a box crab. It genus is Calappa, it may be Calappa convexa, though I'm not certain. I need more crustacean books!

Cool something new for me to look out for ... what colours are ours here ? brown and sandy ?

The eyes and nostrils still look freaky !

Giles,

There are 3 species listed in my book Calappa ocellata, C.flammea & C.granulata. All these species are pale with bottled red patterns.

Go forth and enjoy your search...

Thanks, guys.

Mr. Box Crab has certainly been beaten with an ugly stick!

Hey come on, no name calling now! It's not allowed on Wetpixel, this is site for pasifists - oops sorry about the speeling there!

Oh so sorry. I should have said it was challenged in the area of beauty. Much more polite.

Thanks for setting me straight!
