My wife and I were snorkeling of the resort beach and saw this in about 10 feet of water. I showed this picture to locals and they did not have a clue. Can you help me identify it?
I will have to post the picture later @ home, no e-mail at work.
Thanks,
Thom
Adding the picture here will probably prove me very much off the marker .. but there is such a thing as a fried egg jellyfish
just a few links .. basically the top part if you were to look down on it looks just like a fried egg .. the underneath .. more like a jelly's tentacles !
Now I can a picture.

This is rather bizarre, well for me over in Indonesia anyway. We have a similar animal tht lives under ledges and feeds on other invertebrates.
The nearest I can come up with in the ID books I've got here would be a Pseudocorynactis sp. Though these do not live in sand, or should I saw I've never seen them in sand over here...
Anyway, it's closest relative that you would know would be anemones!
It looks like your average caribbean sand-dwelling anemone to me.

Thanks alot Scott, I have never seen an anemone in the sand like that.
