Truk Lagoon, May 2003

  1. My second (annual) trip to Truk Lagoon was last week. The trip as a whole was not as good as last year, but the diving is simply phenomenal. And that's despite having weathered the early stages of a tropical storm / typhoon. Even with 6 foot waves in the lagoon, and crappy visibility, I'd do the trip again next year.

Anyway, here's the link to my gallery.

There's a little softness in the pics on the website that isn't there on the fullsize versions due to the jpeg compression I used, and my wide angle shots aren't as wide as they could be due to "port issues", but overall I'm pretty happy with the results. Granted, before the last dive where I got the majority of the shots, I was ready to sell the whole damn setup, but that's another story entirely.

Feedback, as always, is welcome and appreciated.

  2. Tom,

    Thanks for posting the link!

The orange polyps in the second shot are actually a non-photosynthetic coral called Tubastraea sp. They come out to feed when the current is strong.

    Cheers

  3. Nice shots. I was just there in Nov. Photography options there are endless!

You can see my trip report and pics on my gallery below.

The tubestrea coral really comes out at night. Doesn't necessarily need currents, just stuff to feed on.
