  1. Hi all. Here is a selection (24 photos) from the trip. Let me know what you think (...even though this was my 1st time taking photos under-water...).

I am thinking of submitting the juvenile drum photo (1st photo on page 2) in the Aggressor digital photo contest. So any thoughts or comments are appreciated.

  2. Liz - The spotted drum is a definite prize-winner! Those guys are nearly impossible to nail, but you did it. My only suggestion would be to take the photo back to Photoshop or Photoshop Elements and tone down the hot whites a bit. It's fairly easy to do, and there are several approaches that work.

Your photo really is remarkable. For years, my wife and I planned our annual dive trip around the Nikonos Shootout (1986-about 1997), a series of UW photography competitions and workshops held at 3-4 locations in the Caribbean each year. On one day of the Shootout, everyone had to shoot macro or close-up. If you ever shot a Nikonos, you remember those wire framers that you somehow had to lure a fish into - an almost impossible feat! A spotted drum would win every time, if anyone was good enough to get the shot. Even with the vastly improved gear, a photo like yours is still a great shot, so go for it.

    Good luck!

  3. Nice shots Liz, and without an external flash. I assume that Thelma and Mary fed you well while on the Aggressor.

I really liked the arrow blenny and if I'm correct, the spinyhead blenny. I have also tried to put framers of my Nikonos around the drums and still find them difficult with a housed camera.
