Sea&Sea TTL Converter 3

  1. Hi guys, I'm going to buy the Sea&Sea TTL converter 3 to use with my d70S AND two YS-90-Auto.

I read on the Sea&Sea compatibility chart:

    http://www.seaandsea.jp/products/accessory/ttl.html

you can use it with YS-90-Auto but it is write " YES,+0.7EV" what does it mean?

Anybody can explain it to me?

Anybody use ttl 3 with dx-d70?

    Thank you

    Alex

  2. Alex, I use the TTL III with my D80. Very similar to your D70s in most respects. (Did you get the obscure movie reference there? :-) ) EV is Exposure Value. It is kind of a TTL "fine tuning" knob. Actually, the TTL III goes from -1.0 to +1.0 EV. You can actually dial in the output of the strobe to get a properly exposed picture if you think your camera is consistently over/under exposing pictures in TTL mode. Does that make sense? Think of it as a short cut to manually dialing in the proper output of the strobes.

BTW, if you decide you just need the TTL II, I have a brand new one, never in the water, for sale!

  3. Hi IMSushi,

thank you for the reply but "fortunately I know somethings about compensation :-)". :P

The question is WHY SEA&SEA WRITE "+-0,7" on the use with dx-d70 and anything on the use with the other housings???

Hope I expalined it clearly this time.

  4. Hi Alex,

First of all, to use the S&S Mk III converter with your D70S in the S&S housing, you will have to have one of the bulkheads changed to the TTL version.

Secondly, I believe that as the i-TTL protocol has developed from D70 to D200 and onto D300 etc., it has varied slightly and upon using some of S&S strobes it is necessary to dial in some compensation to receive the correct exposure from your particular combination.

You can achieve this by either using the S&S converter to dial in the +0.7 or you can do it via the camera and leave the converter for any further alterations once your are in the water... your choice.

    HTH,

    Bruce...

  5. Hi Bruce,

I think you can be right, I think also that maybe it is not a great problem because I can manage it quite surely.

I know about the bulkheads changed in that housing, it is on service for this at the moment.

    Thank you

    PS

I heard about the TTL 3 will be discontibued in the near future and will be replace with a Sea&Sea TTL circuit developed directly from Sea&Sea instead of made by a third Company... But I don't know when maybe in Autumn or later.

    Ciao

    Alex
