Bit of begginer, I have a canon ixus 850is and canon case. ive been recommended by cameras underwater to get an Ikelite AF35 for my upcoming trip to Grenada in September. I was wondering if anyone has tried one of these before or has one? Is it a good solution with its auto replication of the camera flash, as im hoping it will simplify the process of using a strobe (having used a normal one before I struggled).
How does it compare with using a normal strobe and setting it yourself?
Any advice or guidance from anyone would be great, especially if you have or have used one!
Thanks
I have one. Unfortunately, it had a bad circuit board and over exposed all of my shots. Had no trouble "reading" my camera's flash though. I won't be able to test the repaired item until july, however.
Hi,
that doesnt sound like a good start, im in the process of getting a WA and Macro lense at the moment and hoping to be able to justify a strobe as well before I go on holiday in september. I would be interested to hear your feedback once you have been able to re-test the strobe second time round. I would also be interested to hear how well you think the strobe adjusts its output from the camera flash!
Thanks,
Mark
My wife had an AF35 and it worked very well. It is a very good strobe for a point and shoot camera. If you are going to upgrade to something like a G9 or a DSLR you may to look at a different system such as:
You are talking more money but it may save cash in the longer run.
I would skip the AF35s and jump to at least the Ikelite DS-51.
I have made the mistake too many times of cutting corners to save money, only to spend more money to upgrade down the road when my photography results were sub-par. IMHO.
I have actually just purchased an Inon WA lense for my point and shoot and from what im told the AF-35 is not going to be powerfull enough nor is it going to give a wide enough spread.
I like the idea of the sTTL feature that it offers, I beleive the only other one that would be suitable with this application is the INON D2000? Ive also been recommended an Epoque es250 I think it is but they dont seem to be as popular from what ive read?
I know its an age old discussion, which strobe to get and ive read all the posts but if anyone has any suggestions the that would be great.
