Philippines Teaser

10 posts
  1. Met up with Wetpixel staff Herb Ko, James Wiseman, and Drew Wong in the Philippines for a week or two of diving just after my graduation in mid-May. As you can imagine, a rowdy bunch :P - and Drew even shot stills! The trip was a great opportunity to break in the new camera and housing underwater, and I really am happy with the setup (though I might be complaining about broken wrists if not for James' buoyancy rings :P).

We stayed in Anilao for a few days and then moved on to Puerto Galera. Too far behind on even previous trips' galleries, but here are a few images that were quick to process.

Still losing the corners a bit at f/8 and 16mm...the full frame debate rages on :P, but I'm still satisfied. Enough MP for cropping if necessary.

Make sure to bug James, Herb, and Drew about posting some of their photos - they'll appreciate it for sure :P.

  2. "Philippines Teaser"...? Nice title; I was expecting photos of some sexy island girl in tassels...

Like that 2nd pic of the blue bobtail squid.

  3. Hi Mat

I agree with Pakman the botail is really cute.

But my favorite is the last photo (Wide Angle) - Amazing DOF you achieved on the shot.

    Cheers

    Jeff

  4. Matt,

Love the rock on top of the squid...too cool.

  5. Hi Matt,

I missed these the first time. Wrocking bobtail squid! I love the shadows in the shot - very nice.

I'm looking fwd to seeing more of your wide angle shots so I can compare the water color w/ and w/o the filter (I used the CC30M)

Despite saying your blues were too magenta, I think I prefer your water colour, James, to Matt's here. I think that the magenta filters are best when you are exposing for a light blue, like Matt has here, as the cyans really benefit from the extra M, more so than darker blues.

I look forward to seeing more examples from both of you - as my comments above are based on one shot each.

  7. Alex,

I'll start a new thread and hopefully Herb and Matt will add some unfiltered photos. Didn't mean to hijack Matt's thread.

    Cheers

  8. That bobtail squid is a *super* shot, Matt.

I came across this thread while searching for filter information. Regrettably, Matt's images are no longer available. I am going to Club O in April and am interested in your conclusions on using the filters. My camera (Nikon) and strobes (Inon) are different, but I can use your results as a starting point. I am considering CC20M on the strobes and CC20G on the camera. For macro may be just a little blush on the strobes (81A or CC10R). Your opinions?

    Regards,

    Bob

OH jeeze, never mind. I found James thread.

  10. 20 units of each would be perfect Bob. I used 30 and it was a bit much.

    Cheers
