  1. As mentioned in this thread service was cut to some areas, but Curacao is not mentioned in the press release

    The Press Release Mentioned

I had tickets booked for this fall from Newark, NJ to Curacao (including hotels already paid for) and caught wind they cancelled Curacao also. My reservation is now gone(invalid confirmation number) and when looking for flights the message is "Curacao-Willemstad, Netherlands Antilles (CUR) is not currently served by Continental or its partners. Service ends on Sat., Aug. 30, 2008 and begins again on Sat., Dec. 20, 2008. Please modify your search criteria."

Have not received an email or other notification that this occurred and that the reservation went away. Sigh. Anyway since it was not listed in the June 12 release and since I had not received any notice, figured I would put it out there in case others may be in the same situation so there is no unpleasent suprise when you think you are going on a trip.

  2. That sucks. I took that flight back in Feb and it was great to have a direct flight. I was also lucky to get to Guayaquil from Houston before that went the way of the dodo.

Can you get your hotel refunded? Are you going to try to find another flight? I guess summer is not busy for those flights that's why they discontinued them.

GRRRRRRRRRRRR. My wife just got off the phone with Continental and were treated real p#@s poor. We understood that they are going through alot right now and just wanted to know what was up since we had not received a notification of the cancellation. Was told we should have known about it because it was in the news, and should have known. My wife mentioned this route was not in anything we read that was released by Continental. Then the customer service rep got alot snippier, such as when we asked are there other ways of getting to Curacao that they could find with Continental and we were told to try Delta. Things went further down hill from there ("We put the miles back into your account, what else would you expect us to do?") Lucky I was not on the call and heard that because I would have lost it on the Customer Rep. Finally my wife gave up.

We are actually going in October for Coral Spawning (was down there last year and loved it) and they cancelled all flights between the end of August and December 20 from Newark. We are looking into the hotel situation now - it is booked and paid for and are also looking for other options for flights where it will not take an inordinate amount of travel time or money.

I understand airlines are having issues, these things happen and in the grand schemes of life people are losing their jobs which is more important than the annoyance of this happening and messing up a dive trip. But since they are able to send notices about everything (automated emails and voice mails reminding you about everything) I do not think it is too much to expect that when they unilaterally cancel a booking they should inform customers. Maybe this flight was cut yesterday and they are going to still send something out, but by the same token it did not seem to take that much effort to remove our booking and put the miles back into the account. If they did all that, they should have time also to prepare an email.

Treating people who fly with them often with a little bit of respect would not hurt either if they are going through rough times. (My wife waited to call to make sure she did not sound angry or upset since we both figured the reps are getting slammed. )

    Like I said GRRRRRRRRR ;)
