  1. Took this shot at the Drop-off at Verde Island near Puerto Galera in the Philippines:

    f7.1 @ 1/80th - ISO200

I used my complimentary filters for this shot as well - hence the blue water.

  2. very nice James... Verde Island, one of my all time favorite dive sites.

  3. Nice image James,

How did you like the Philippines compared to Bali? Are diving and accommodations similar? I've been to Bali a few times and am looking for an alternative.

    Thank your

    Mike

  4. Hey James,

This one does not work for me.

I think that the water is getting very close to purple in that shot. And if it was ever printed in a magazine (in CMYK) then it would certainly go purple. You just can't get away with that much magenta in you blues. The cyans can take the extra magenta, but the blue not.

What lens were you using? I think that the detail in the bottom left corner is getting a bit smudgy too.

  5. Hi Alex,

Thanks for your feedback. I like the way the blue looks (especially in these conditions w/o the 30m filter) but I'll have a go at tweaking the tint down to see the effect.

I was using the 17-40L at f7.1 - which is not optimal. In addition to that, I was almost touching the gorgonian at the lower left - hence the out of DOF/blurry area.

OK back to the drawing board.

Pakman: I liked the area in the PI that we were diving better than Bali. It had the critters of Bali, but also some great wideangle diving too.

    Cheers

The alternative would be to increase the exposure a bit more for the background (longer shutter speed). I think that the 30M has the best affect on light blues. So why not adjust the exposure to make the most of this?

  7. Hi James,

Nice!...I'm going back to Verde for Fall of 09. Love the wideangle there.

  8. Here's another take on the photo, with a cooler white balance, and I took out 20 units of tint. I also brought up the mid-tones using the fill light control:

How do the two photos compare?
