YS-27DX shutting down at depth

  1. Weird problem.

On two dives today, my YS-27 "shut off" below about 60 feet. On the first dive, I was convinced it was a optical sync problem - but on the second dive, I noticed when I got below about 60 feet, the YS-27 was powered down and I couldn't turn it back on ... at first I thought it was flooded, so I resigned myself to one strobe ... but, when I came back above 60 feet, it powered back on by itself.

Anyone have any theories? It has been fine all week until today ... and the only time I removed and regreased the oring was last night ... kinda figure that is signifcant.

I just got back and opened it up and it is bone dry and firing fine.

Weird, right? Could have reaaaaaally used two strobes today on the walls, but what can you do?

  2. Sounds like it might be caused by that great rum punch at the Sunset House. :D You sure you're not seeing things?

  3. Maybe a weak battery cell ???

Have you replaced all the batteries and tried new ones?

    Hold on,

I remember a thread like this in a forum once before.

I think that in that case, it was the camera that kept on shutting down at depth.

They did find the answer, and it was something simple, from memory...

Sorry mate, you will have to a search on that...

Last call was 5 minutes ago ... could be ... could be ... :D

I'm on my way home tomorrow. Full report to come, but the non-diving highlight today was getting stuck for 2.5 hours outside the cut in a boat with a dead engine. Captain busted his a** to get the boat moving again and save what was my last dive of the trip.

Nice mini-wall called Omega. Here's a shot from the end of the dive ...

It happened with two different sets of (in theory) fully-charged AAs and there was no problem at 50 feet or less or on the surface ... only at depth.

    I'll search around ...
