Ikelite Substrobe 150

  1. I have two practically new Ikelite Substrobe 150 units that seem to work fine. The batteries still charge, and they fire manually. I also have a new Substrobe 125DS that I was using with my Canon S70 (with the Ikelite sensor), and will be using with my new Ikelite housing for a Canon Rebel XT.

Has anyone tried using the older strobes as slaves with the 125? I know it would require manual exposure which is fine since I did that for years with my film cameras (still have a rare RED Ikelite housing for a Canon F1 with the speed finder). They are good, powerful strobes. Seems like they must be good for something. I've even thought about using them as studio lights.

    Thoughts?

  2. I use the Ikelite SS150, SS225, and SS400's as slaves to the DS125 (in manual only) all the time. They work fine - they are big and clunky, but they work fine.

You can also directly wire the two strobes to your XT housing using a dual sync cord, but you will need to bypass the TTL converter (use a manual sync cord or mask off some of the pins on the hot-shoe).

    Cheers
