Inon Wet Lense Storage While Diving

6 posts
  1. Hi,

I have a canon ixus 850 and the Canon housing and ive just purchased the Inon WA and Macro Lense. I was wondering what people do in terms of carrying these lense's safely without scratching them when they dive. I know most people use a strobe and therefore attach the spare lense to the strobe arm. Im not immediatly planning to use a strobe so my question is how do i best carry the lense im not using in a way which protects in and prevents it from getting scratched. My bcd has pockets but unprotected I wouldnt want to put the lense i there. Any suggestions or advice? Also I was wondering if anyone has found a suitable lanyard of some sort to attach the the lense so it can be attached somehow to you or another bit of equipment so if you accidentally drop it you dont risk damaging or losing it?

    Any suggestions greatly appreciated,

    Thanks

    Mark

  2. I don't have that camera model but my macro lense came with a front and back cover which protected it in my pocket. I have the fisheye and that one had a neo cover which protected it. But what I did for that one, I went to a craft store and bought some stainless steel that they use for making necklaces, some small clamps, and some metal eyes. I made lopes that went through the metal eyes that I punched into the neo cover and then made another lope were the cord for your wrist would be. This worked pretty well for the couple of months I needed it to until I added my strobe and arms.

  3. I bought little neoprene pouches (INON makes them) and I tie them to a d-ring and stick the pouches into the chest pockets of my BCD.

Works just fine ... but the lens caddies that INON makes seem like a much better solution.

  4. Hi,

thanks for your responses, I like the idea of the neoprene pouches. I wondered if there was something like that which would be suitable. Are they alright underwater, does anyone know of a UK stockist for these?

  5. I think the pouches are a great idea for securing the lenses when entering or exiting the water as they provide good protection. But for quick changing underwater secure a small fastex clip with a cable tie to the waist of the lens and have the other half of the fastex hanging off a d ring. Just snap it on or off as required...

  6. I have the dual lens caddy for my G9, Ikelite housing, & ULCS arms.

The lens caddy works well however, the lenses are very finely threaded. I find that they are fairly difficult to thread squarely if I'm wearing my drygloves due to the loss of dexterity. Not too bad if I'm tropical, but you still have to be very careful either attaching them to the caddy or the housing or they will cross thread.

I had a S&S before the G9 with 1/4 turn lenses and a caddy. It worked great but I always added a leash with my Sea & Sea lenses because they didn't feel rock solid and I was apprehensive about losing a lens.

I also have the neoprene pouches but I only use them for storage not while I'm diving.

    Good luck.
