my second toght about to remove the shade is to let more natrul lights
so the camera can focus more easy
suggestions hints
hola kent
thanks kent
Hi Kent, removing the dome shade will not improve focusing or let more ambient light in, they are designed to stay out of the optical path of the lens, in the case of your focusing light, mayI suggest using or adding a longer arm segment to give you the flexibility to position it in the proper position.
Aside from helping in preventing stray light from ruining your shot, dome shade actually are the ultimate shock absorber and many a dome have been spared by this seemingly benign accessory taking one for the team.
Cheers
PS: that goes for top side too, never leave home without your shade B)
Hi Kent
I don't use Ikelite but certainly wouldn't removed the shade on my Subal - exactly as Jean says. Its the ultimate shock absorber. Careful though we all are, I have managed to ping my dome port against a rock (never, of course, a coral head) once or twice and, happily, the shade has taken the brunt.
I have the same issue with a focus light and an 8" dome. I just bought an extra bit of ULCS and a clamp and extended the reach of the focus light over the dome. It costs a few dollars for the bits, but its still cheaper than fixing a smacked-up domeport
