Philippines (Puerto Galera) Slideshow Updated!

10 posts
  1. Hi Folks,

Been a bit busy with work and my 3 month old son...amazing how one functions on 6hrs or less sleep a night!

I just finished a slide show of my January trip to Puerto Galera. Spent a week there diving with Scubaplus Dive Centre. www.scubaplus.com

There seems to be a bug with the codec for the slideshow software so images wouldn't render properly, I had to revert back to the .EXE file.

The file is 22MB and was created with ProShow Gold. Mac users will need a Windows emulator to run it, sorry. :D A VGA res .mpg was over 100mb from the software so I didn't bother posting it.

The song used, "Biyahe Tayo (Let's Travel)" is one done by the Philippine Dept. of Tourism using top local Filipino artist.

Some of you may recognize Lea Salonga, the original Ms. Saigon as well as the Jasmine's singing voice in Disney's Alladin.

    Here's a

on You Tube. The gist of the song is Come visit and marvel at the wonders of the Philippines.

Images were taken during a week's stay in Puerto in early January. There was no wide angle because run offs caused by near daily rain showers on the nearby hills made for bad vis.

    Enjoy

  2. Stu, that was great photography, and I loved the slide show. The nudis alone were worth the price of admission!

That brings back fond memories of diving in PG.

Do you know that you can upload your slide show to Photodex and send people the link to the show? It runs in a smaller window, but it's very convenient to share with others.

  3. Great stuff Stu. You and Jimbo have me ready to pack my bags for Puerto Galera.

  4. Hey Stu,

Thank you! What a great set of images. I'm having trouble seeing how you were able to put all that together with a 3 month old in the house. I use proshow gold and it can take some serious time to do this well. Your wife must be glad your finished. :) Do you have these posted anywhere? There is one shot of an arrowcrab or something on the edge of a brown sponge? where the lip of the sponge has this graceful curves off to the right. It flashes by so quickly I'm probably messing this up, but it took my breath away. I would really like to spend some more time enjoying all your images. Congrats on a great trip. Another place to add to my list.

    Cheers,

    Steve

  5. Hi Steve,

Were you talking of this one?

I'll try to put them up on a separate page on my site next week.

Jim, I prefer to host the images on my site, I was trying to get the .AVI to work but no luck. It was actually your stuff (great images btw!) that pushed me over the edge in finishing up the show. It doesn't take that long, once images are processed, I've got custom PS actions for resizing, changing to sRGB and creating the blue border, after that it's drag and drop.

Anyway, glad you guys liked the show, I've been diving in the PI since 1996 and have led groups of shooters there since 99, so I'm glad it's finally getting the recognition it deserves.

p.s. Images were taken with either the 5D or 40D in my modified Subal 10D housing. Lenses used: 50 & 100 Macro, EF 28-105 f3.5-4.5 and up to 2 stacked Woody's diopters. I have another ... longer one that was used locally by the Philippine Consul General a while back linked on my site... My Webpage

  8. Thanks Larry, you haven't been back there in a while no?

Not since 2002. I consider it one of my best trips ever and I'd love to do it again but stuff - work, family - keeps getting in the way.

  9. Hi Steve,

Were you talking of this one?

Stu, I ran it again, it's the image of the blue cleaner shrimp on the lip of a sponge? Looks like a pederson shrimp (if it was in the Caribbean). The show on your website is simply spectacular. You had my adrenalin pumping just from the shear beauty. Not kidding, it made me dizzy! I have been looking at underwater photos for a long time and that may be the best, most consistently great, set of images I have ever seen taken in one location. Congratulations partner, stunning!

  10. Ah....here you go.

Thanks for the kind words. Glad you liked it.
