Places to stay and dive in Palau

5 posts
  1. We are looking for suggestions for places to stay and dive for a short visit to Palau after staying in Yap for a week.

Please pass along any and all suggestions.

    Thanks in Advance,

    Jamie

  2. Dive blue corner. Don't know about where to stay, but I'll ask my friend. Blue coner is a fast drift dive where you hook into the reef and the entire aquarium passes you by. My buddy dove there last summer and got to watch a whitetip devour a grouper. (of coarse, no camera)

  3. It would help if you give us more info like budget, type of accomodation etc. Palau has a good range of accomodation suiting a varied number of tastes and budgets.

  4. I can only go with my experience from earlier this year, but Fish'n'Fins ran a good operation, both liveaboard and dayboats. I stayed in the mid-price Cliffside hotel, and ate out in the evening. The more expensive hotels were very nice, and I would go for one of them if I went back. The budget hotels looked a bit ropey, but eating out in Koror is excellent, so that side of things isn't a problem.

The "classic" wall and drift dives are excellent, but we had a hard time finding mantas. "Blue Corner" has to be dived: we saw a whale shark, greys, whitetips and silkies, as well as jacks, barracuda, turtles and Napoleon fish.

Chandelier cave is worth a dive, and "Blue Holes" if there aren't too many other divers. Jellyfish Lake is cool, and absolutely amazing from a helicopter, which flight I'd recommend to any photographer on Palau.

Looking for accomodations that are clean and safe, so middle of the road I guess. Dive operator who is fun and safe and of course camera friendly.

Thanks for your replies everyone and keep em coming.
