Subal ND20 Setup

  1. I'm trying to determine if I want to make a change to my Subal ND20 setup, and hoped to get some input from others that have more experience with this model.

I've found that the Subal handles, as ergonomic as they are, present a challenge for me to tilt the camera up as far as I like (generally shooting upward to get more blue background).

I bought a pair of ULCS TR-SC brackets so that I could replace the Subal handles with a pair of UCLS handles, but now realize that because of the angle on the housing itself, the brackes and subsequently the handles cant (or lean) about 5 degrees out rather than being vertical along the sides of the housing. It looks like I can adjust the handle position in close enough that I can manipulate all the controls.

I just wondered if anyone else had been down this road, and what their experience had been. Subal handles, or something else?

    FYI.. I'm shooting a pair of Sea & Sea YS-90 Duos, with 5" & 8" arms...

    Thanks for any input.

  2. I like the UCLS handles; I also like the fact that the strobe balls are on top of the handle which eliminates the housing attachments which always seemed to loosen during dives.

  3. Thanks for the input, Loftus.

I too like the balls on the handles. The dovetail ball adaptors always seem to loosen on me, too.

So, are you using the ULCS brackets screwed into the housing that end up angling downward slightly? Also, do you use any kind of strap or lanyard?

Thanks again for the info -- I always try to adapt the best ideas into what works best for me.
