Hi, I am planning a vacation in Bhutan. I am unsure about the best time to visit there. If anyone has already been there for vacations then please let me know about the overall practice of the trip. I am very interested in spending my vacation in Bhutan. Give your suggestions so that I can ask my superior to grant my leave. Thanks in advance.

Pierce, please don't double post the same subject in different forums. I've move your post to the appropriate forum.
We went to the Uma Paro for 7 days in Mar or Apr and can wholeheartedly recommend the place as a great romantic retreat. The Rhoro-something flower blooming is probably the most beautiful sight I've even seen in the Himalayas. The wonderful trails (ok we only went for 4 walks to various temples and hit the spa the rest of the time), don't miss that temple hanging from the side of the mountain (sorry I'm just writing this from memory so I can't give you names even).
A few caveats:
It shocked me that we had to prebook everything from which tour to go on, air flights etc. f I remember correctly, we couldn't go anywhere without guides but I don't know if that's changed.
If my world news doesn't fail me, I think the maoist activists have set off a few bombs so check if there are any crackdowns before you go there.
It can get VERY wet so bring layers of warm and water proof clothing as a shell.
I do intend to go back next year or 2010. Wow you do know that there is no diving in Bhutan?
Good luck. -
I have been researching this a bit as well and like Drew says, the tourism there is controlled and must be done on a preplanned and prepiad itinerary (unless you are a guest of the royal family) -- as far as I know, independent trekking is not permitted at this time. For general tourism information and what the best times are to travel to which part of the country, check out:

This is the site of the travel agency that was spun out of the government some years ago and has a lot of good information. They also appear to be affiliated with http://www.farfungplaces.com and I recently received information from them as well. Having said this, I'm sure there are many agencies around the world that can book these things for you. These are only places that I've corresponded briefly with. I do really want to go there soon!

That would be the Rhododendron flower blooming
And it sure is beautiful. If you want to treck by yourself, why not consider Nepal? There you have some amazing trecks, and you can do them all by yourself.
