Using Internet in Islds in Philippine

  1. Hi,

It was always a problem to find internet access when I was diving in Philippines

and now I have a solution for it.

Local cellphone provider SMART now has what they call 'Smart Bro' & is WCDMA

based broadband wireless internet. They sells a USB modem (with built-in memory

with driver+software so that you can just plug-in to any computer & you are ready to use)

at around U$80.- & you can buy re-fill card (30 min per 10 peso) like you do on

    cell phone.

Speed was 'good' (better than I expected) & main thing is it provide internet access

to the place it was impossible before.

    Sam

  2. Sam,

You can also get that prepaid sim card and use your 3G phone as a modem to the internet. I have the HwaWei dongle modem and it's faster than the phone for HSDPA connections but otherwise to save on carry more crap, a 3G cellphone (HSDPA capable) is probably the best solution.
