Might give the G9 a good run for its money. Looks like the lens should be slightly wider angle (28mm equivalent).
RAW only available on Windows (not sure what that is about). Movie mode is at least 640x480, but the specs don't fully say...
This looks like the poor man's Leica I've been looking for. I assume the sensor size quoted of 1/1.7 means a 1.7 crop.
That is a bizarre way of quoting sensor size. It looks to me like the 1/1.7inch means 0.588" across the diagonal which breaks down to a sensor size of about 11.82mm x 8.94mm. It looks like the crop factor is something like 4.66 which is consistent with the 35mm equivalents they give for th 6-24mm lens. I suspect that IQ at ISO6400 will be less than stellar with such a small sensor. But for $500, I think it's a bargain
Thanks for that (I should have looked at the lens size quoted) , so nowhere close to Leica sensor size. The price was too good to be true.
Hmmm... Their numbers don't add up. I have no idea what 1/1.7 means cause working backwards from their lens equivalents suggests that the sensor is more like 8mm x 6mm. I hate it when sales people get there hands on technical specs!

I think they were referring to it being compatible, but not exclusive to windows. I doubt that any Adobe product on a mac will not read it, or not read it with an update that is usually quick to follow.
I think the camera looks like it might just be what we've been looking for from Nikon. Fantasea has been working on a housing and it should be out quickly after the camera release.

This is the thing to look at for possibly quality future small cameras or possible rangefinders
I'm encouraged that Panasonic is in on this. I can imagine the newly announce LX3 with this sensor in it. The problem with even the best consumer cameras is that the sensor is just to small.
The sensor size is the same as that of the G9.

The P6000 has several features that should make it a much better choice (than the G9) and in particular the reasonable 4X zoom and 28MM focal length and logical control layout. It apparently uses a Sony sensor.

Thanks for that; a throwback to measuring vacuum tubes in the 50's.
Just a note: the camera shoots NRW files, not NEF in RAW. There is talks of it not being supported in Capture NX and one must convert in the camera or windows imaging to convert them. It might not be a huge deal but for someone like me who shot Nikon "topside" and was overly exited they could keep the same workflow for underwater...It might not happen.
