Young Island in St. Vin

I have not stayed at the Young Island Resort so take that into consideration but I have eaten there and I thought the food was way overpriced. I stayed across the bay at the Mariners and although I wouldn't descibe it as luxurious, the rooms were very adequate and the food was excellent. I booked the entire land/diving package through Dive St. Vincent and I thought we got a good deal.
The diving on St Vincent is superb for critters/macro, only OK for wa shooting. When we were there in October there was a lot of rain and subsequent run-off which reduced visibility. I found Dive St Vincent to be very photo friendly. The diver guides would usually point out a couple of interesting subjects and then go off and leave us alone until they had something else to show.

Young Island is very nice. It is also very, very expensive. We, too, stayed at the Mariners. It was fine. I looked at some other offerings, but none were better. The restaurant is good, but a bit pricey. We dined out a few times, but really didn't find anything better/cheaper.
I really enjoyed the macro/muck diving, more so than the rest of the group. There were some very colorful reefs to the north that we did as a day trip.
Overall, a very good experience, except for gettting there and back. The return included the flight from hell. BTW, whatever airline you use will have a 93% chance of not having your bags on the same flight as you.

Thanks for the info.

I was in St. Vincent in 2003. Great critter diving. One of the St. Vincent dive ops is on the forum here under the user name "indigo". You might send a note, though I think she might be on Dominica at the moment! Young Island is a "luxury" resort. Never been there but it did appear to be quite expensive!

Young Is ia expensive. Plus you're on an island and if you want to go to town or try other resturants, you have to get the ferry across - although you could swim if as fast. There are several more reasonable hotels on the mainland.
If you're diving through "Dive St. Vincent" have them book the hotel. Go to their web site.
