I can't seem to find anything on this in the searches.....
Does anyone know the appropriate extension in order to add a Kenkon 1.4 convertor? I plan to use my normal extension rings for each lens, and just add the extra ring.
Failing that, can I just measure the extra length of the convertor and add this?
Many thanks
Adam

At least on Ikelite´s modular port system, that is what you are supposed to do.

The best way to find the extension ring lenght for the Kenko 1.4 teleconverter is that:
1 - Install the Kenko teleconverter and the lens in the camera - check the lenght from the camera body.
2 - Remove the Kenko teleconverter and install only the lens - Check the length from the camera body.
3 - The difference between both measurement will be the extension ring lenght you need.
Best regards.

I have the 2X Kenko and use the ext.ring 40.
Best is to check with one of the sites sponsors-Ryan at Reef Photo & Video.

Definitely, it's not rocket science. I use a 20mm extension with my S&S rig, with the kenko 1.4. I believe the teleconverter adds around 15-17mm to the length, but don't quote me on that. The subal 20mm ring should work fine, the 15mm may be cutting it too close.
it doesn't have to be exact, but the extension can't be too short

Subal also have the 18mm extension ring.
If you add to the extension ring one port with manual focus knob, like the port for the Nikkor 105VR for example, precision to determinate the extension ring lenght it's very important.

Hi again all
Many thanks for all the responses-it is kind of you all to share your time and knowledge.
I'm planning on using it with a Nikon 10.5 (and a Tokina 10-17) so manual focus is not an issue (at the momment!)
I have contacted Ryan, and will post the "official" result as well!
Thanks again
Adam
Hi again all,
I have received a quick reply from Ryan (as always!)
He says that the 15mm is the ideal, although the 20mm will work it is a little long.
Thanks for all the ideas!
I plan to try the Tokina 10-17mm (at the 10mm end since I won't have a zoom gear) with the 1.4 convertor-I'll post the results.
Thanks again
Adam
I may be missing something, but what would be the point of using a teleconverter with the 10-17 at 10mm? That would essentially give you a 14mm lens, which your 10-17 covers.
I have used a teleconverter on a Canon 15mm with a 5D, because there was no other option to get the focal length I wanted and maintain corner sharpness/slight fisheye appearance... but with a 10-17, you can do that by zooming. Now if you were going to use it at the 17mm end, I would understand better.

Hi Brian,
it could be for WideAngleMakro. With the 1.4 TC you got 40% magnification.

Hi guys
Yes my plan was for macro wide angle!
I plan to use the TC to get my foreground object magnified, and still get the advantage of the 10-17 wide angle as a background.
By the way, I put it all together in my housing, and if I reverse the zoom gear, I can actually use it to give me zoom with the TC in place-result!
