tokina filter?

5 posts
  1. Hi

i was interested in purchaing the tokina 10-17 fisheye lens but i was wondering if it has a filter holder, i know that it is impossible on the front due to the frontal element.

But does the lens have a rear filter holder.

If it doesn't have a filter holder does anyone have any reccomendations on a similar lens with a filter holder. Or a way to attach a filter to this lens, i was interested in the magic filter system.

Is it even needed on the slr system and can i live without it ;)

    thanks matt...

  2. No rear gel or filter holder on this lens.

I have successfully taped a piece of Magic filter on the rear - so all is not lost if that is what you want.

  3. Hi Matt, The Canon and Nikon version of the Tokina have different rear end, the Nikon version has somewhat more meat to mount the magic filter on with tape. the Canon has smaller space for mounting it, whichever you have always pay attention and make sure the filter is secure with sufficient tape, having a piece of acetate flying around your mirror box is not healthy, if you have a Nikon mount lens, you can ask your local camera repair shop if they can mount a Sigma filter holder in the rear, I mounted the filter holder from my old scrap 14mm (died in a shipwreck), its as brezze to modified, unfortunatly for Canon user, the rear of the Tokina lack the real estate for mounting one.

Do not go panicky on the filter, if you mount it well it will stay in place no problem, I use a magic filter pretty often and I am quite an advocate of it, given today's crop of camera and their low light cababillity, it make sense to be able to take full advantage of this combination.

  4. Hi,

Ditto the above-I use original and green water magics with this lens, by triming and taping it onto the back.

    I have a Nikon

    Works fine!

The combination of the 10-17 and magic filter is a great one! Magic filters work really well wth fisheye lenses.

    All the best
