  1. Hi Guys,

I'm trying to compile a pretty accurate listing of all the manufacturers who make housings for the Nikon SB800 flash... ;)

I am aware of Subal, Fantasea and probably Zillion, but I would like to know about the others and hopefully any custom housing artisans...

I really like the look of the units from Patima for the 'Sunpak' series of flashes, but I have been told that the 'Sunpaks' don't hold a candle

to the SB800 and have some reliability issues.

It's a pity because they are such a neat little compact unit.

Thanks for jumping in with all your suggestions and ideas...woohoo.

Oh, and BTW, if anyone can confirm as to whether Nexus is going into production of the housing that they previewed for the SB400, that would be great...

    Bruce...

  2. Bruce;

Fantasea has discontinued it's FSB-800 for now anyway. I believe they might be considering one for the SB-900 instead?

You might find some retailers with FSB-800s in stock, but I've not been able to order any.

  4. Hi,

Patima makes aluminum housing for SB-800.

I am using 'Nautilus' SB-800 housing (Japanese Hand made product) & you can get it

from Yuzo at info at naturephoto.co.jp .

    Hi Sam,

Sorry to be a pain, but would you be able to post a pic of the Nautilus housing for the SB800?

Or is there a listing on Yuzo's site or the manufacturer's site?

I'm really interested in getting some housings for the SB800 that aren't as big and cumbersome as the Subal unit...

    Thanks for your help mate,

    Bruce

  6. GHB,

Have you emailed Ike about your predicament?

I reckon that you should be able to get it to work, but it depends which housing and bulkheads you have?

I would certainly be interested in the purchase of the SB800 housing...PM me with a price if you like??

    Bruce... ;)

Sorry mate, I just read that you had the TTL housing. Guess that means you're up 'that' creek...

Thanks for posting the link. Previously, I could not navigate the site to find this housing. Sorta expensive at 78K Yen ~= $710 USD. All three manufactured housing I've seen for the SB800 use a flat interface (port). Would this change the FoV for the strobe? Some of the home-made housings I have seen use a dome port.

    Deep6,

I have the Subal housing for the SB800 and it has a domed port. Subal advertises that this offers the full coverage from the SB800 flash's beam...

The Patima housing also advertises that their housing for the SB800 has a domed port, although I have not seen this and I would also be doubtful

as the whether they could put a domed port in such a small oblong opening??

    Bruce...

  10. Hi Guys,

Can anyone offer any links to the Zillion housing site...specifically the flash housings for the SB800 and the SB-R200?

    Thanks up front...

    Bruce...

  11. Zillion strobe housings are special order only items, and are not listed on their site.

I've attached the pictures I have-

  12. and...

I don't have any pictures of the SU800 or SB800 housings. I did purchase 2 of these for myself, and will use the in conjunction with a Seatool d300 housing. I don't expect to receive them for 6 weeks.

Honestly, I'll likely replace them with Inon S-2000 when that strobe becomes available.

  13. I'm eager to see how these R200's work with the Seatool D300 and how they compare to the S-2000's. I believe a smaller optically triggered strobe would be nice for macro.

The R200's have the advantage of TTL exposure control per strobe through the camera menus (or through the SU800). They will also reduce battery demands on the D300. The downside is the lower power (though likely enough at ISO 200) and less desirable battery. There is a rechargable battery for the R200 that I think will yield about 200 cycles. I would expect the S-2000 battery solution and recycle times to be more desirable.

    Thanks Ryan,

    You the man!

Certainly the 'Go to guy' for everyone on this forum...

He's got more knowledge in his little finger than I've got in me whole head. . . . ;)

BTW, do you know something about the S-2000 that we don't?

My dumb interpretation of fings to do wiff cameras, I thought that i-TTL(proprietry) would have been better than S-TTL(Inon). . . :)

    Bruce...

  15. Sealux http://www.sealux.de/ has one too with a window for slave triggering, flat port. Well machined but lousy aftersales service though.
