i just bought a sony dsc-p5 (great great camera) and i would like to get the underwater housing to shoot surf photos/video. anyone had any experience with it? will it be safe in the surf?
from what i can tell it looks pretty sturdy and allows access to all the major functions. but is it water tight?
also, what's this i hear of using silica gel? i'm a complete newbie. URLs which talk about in-water surf photography appreciated.
thanks!
The Sony housing for the P5 is watertight but i'm not sure about using it in the surf.
The housing is designed for changing water pressure (i.e. diving or snorkling) but i'm not sure if the o-rings will stand the force of a big breaking wave and the housing might crack if it is hit against the ground. I'd probably go for an aluminium housing with double o-rings.
We use silica gel packs to avoid fogging inside the housing.
