Ikelite TTL sensor - different versions?

  1. Below is a query to which I did not get a reply from Ikelite customer service. Could someone enlighten me on this?

    Thanks,

I have a Ikelite wireless TTL sensor for use with my DS-125 strobe. Both were bought around Jan/Feb 2002. As per the instructions in Ikelite

web page, http://www.ikelite.com/web_pages/dsenswitch.html, I opened the coin

slot to check the position of pre-flash switch. However, to my surprise there

was no switch (like in the photo in Ikelite web-page), but rather just an empty

    compartment for battery.

What is wrong here? Are there different versions of the wireless TTL sensor?

The provided Ikelite documentation identifies my sensor as #4100.5. Also, in

the last page of the instruction booklet there is a number 4100.5-01-0501. The

instruction booklet does not mention the issues discussed in above-mentioned Ikelite web-page.

  2. Hello,

I had a problem with my digital sensor (bought about Jan 2002) synching up to my DS-125. I e-mailed Ike personally and he responded by saying that the sensor probably had to be "updated".

The "updated" sensor would have a red octopus decal in the sensor window. When I looked mine did not.

I sent my sensor and strobe to Ike and they sent it right back (within a week), now with the octopus sticker and working perfectly. (Not implying that the sticker itself is the solution!). Again, an example of Ike's great customer service.

    Hope this helps,

    John

  3. There is no red octopus in my sensor, so it probably is the "old" model. Does anyone know what the differences between old and new one are?

  4. A year ago is a looong time in digital cameras. Early sensors were fine for the first cameras, but as the cameras evolved the importance and length of their preflash dictated changes in our TTL sensor. What worked then may not work with the newest models. Following URL describes strobes for digital cameras:

  5. I was going to respond by suggesting you E-mail Ike...but he was already watching.

    John

  6. Email sent to Ike w.r.t. upgrading the sensor to the new design.

    Thanks,

    Jukka-Pekka
