I've got one for my 40D. I like it.

  3. My wife has been using the Seatool housing for the 400D for over a year now. She loves it!

  4. I have the Seatool housing for my Canon 40D, I love the size and the way it performs, but I just got back from a trip to PNG and half way the trip my zoom gear started to slip. The part in the housing, not on the lens.

I wasn't able to fix this with the limited tools (and knowledge), so I had to use my lenses as a prime lens for the remainder of the trip.

One other thing, the housing control for the rear command dial takes a lot of turning to make much adjustment in aperture value -- this proved fairly frustrating and is something I will ask to have checked out.

Here you can find a thread from somebody who just did 60dives with the housing:

The zoomgear problem is described here by a fellow diver as well.

Nevertheless I'm very happy with the housing, but I have to find a sollution for these issues.

I'm the one who posted the "60 dives" note. I see you used my exact quote on the rear command dial issue in your description. I never did get a response back on that one. I also had an issue with zoom gear slip, but my issue was different than Amber's. Mine was an improper assembly in the housing that had to be replaced. Once it was replaced, the problem was solved.

Talked to Ryan at Reef Photo this afternoon about the rear command dial. It is operating as designed. Problem is that there is very little if any mechanical advantage to the small coontrol wheel. He suggested using the custom functions on the camera to allow changing aperture by full stop increments instead of 1/3 stop increments. What a great idea!

  7. I use the rear command dial on my SeaTool housing for the Olympus E-3 to change shutter speed and the front command dial for Aperture control.

I also use my four ports designed for Olympus housings (220 mm, 170 mm domes and 50 & 35 macro ports) with the SeaTool adapter and they work flawlessly.

These are outstanding housing and travel very well in my carry-on Think Tank bag.

The four ports and two extension ports allow at least sixteen different lens, tele converter and extension tube combinations.

  8. I haven't got mine wet yet......but here are my initial thoughts:

Will get it wet in the Sea of Cortez the week after next and add to my review.

  9. Here is my grip alternative:

It is a ULCS tray flipped upside down with an Inon grip attached. I bought extended bolts and aluminum spacers to raise the height. I will be replacing the plastic wing bolts in favor of an allen head bolts because I worry about breakage. The center tripod mount is usable and the grip is good for smaller hands.
