Spring on Ningaloo Reef

  1. That's right it's Spring here in the Southern Hemisphere. :)

We got out first dives in for Spring today. Although the water has started to warm up it is still a tad chilly at 23°C/73°F. The water was clear but there were a lot of floaties that made photography diffficult. I gave my new Tokina 35mm macro its second run today and it proved ideal for medium/big fish in dirty water (which is what I got it for). I'm really starting to like this lens. Here's a few from today:

  2. WOW. . . . . :)

    They're sharp.

The outlines on those fish are that sharp they'd cut ya. . . .

No wonder you like the lens. . . . bloody hell!

    Bruce... :)

I'm not doing anything different in post processing to what I do for similar shots taken with my Canon 60 and 100 macros (both of which are no slouches when it comes to sharpness). I put it down to the fact that with the 35 macro I have to be much closer to get the same shot, less water between the camera and the subject equals sharper picture. Even my wife has noticed the sharper results for this type of shot with this lens and is now eyeing it off for use in on her camera. :)
  5. Great pics, thanks for sharing. Scott

    Hi Ross,

It really separates the subject from the background. . . . very impressive.

    Bruce...

  7. Nice pictures !!

I just order yesterday this lense .

Which port do you use with the Tokina 35 mm?

I own a sea and sea housing and it seems that it could be use only with the dome .

All the flat ports produce vignetting .

    Thank for your answer

So far I've been using it with the same flat port as I use with my Canon 60 macro. I will be trying it with my dome port once I figure out which extension I need to use with it.
