CompuTrekker Plus Aw

  1. I spent a weekend studying every bag at big camera store and the one that fit me best to wear was the CompuTrekker Plus AW so I bought it. The more I look at it at home, the larger and larger it looks. It seems to be more than I need for gear. The smaller Vertex 200AW is big enough for gear but it did not fit me well to wear - same with the Thinktank Acceleration. Those were the bags I was expecting to buy but I did not really like the way they fit. Now wondering if I made the right choice.

Does anyone have experience with the CompuTrekker Plus AW on puddle jumpers? Does it get accepted or rejected?

I want to be able to carry this on to any flight.

    thanks

    Dave

  2. Hi Dave,

I have used a Computrekker plus on several flights over the last year or so.

I got no hassle from the check in staff. even on the Maldivian sea planes. It has travelled as carry on for all flights.

Sizewise, I can get my Subal ND2, ports, strobes and arms in it.

The bag seems to be wearing well.

    Hope that helps

    Adam

  3. Thanks Adam!

This is the kind of info I am after. Yours is the same as the Comptrekker plus AW on the Lowepro webiste? Sorry to be persistent, I am just not certain when they change their bags and sizes.

I will have to be careful not to overpack it. One could get this bag really heavy, as it sounds like yours gets sometimes. I certainly like the way it fits, its very much like my camping backpack.

I hope others that have experience will share as well.

    thanks!

    Dave

  4. I have this bag and find it very good - I can get my Ikelite housing, 2 strobes, ports, camera, lenses & notebook in it. Never had a problem bringing it as carry on throughout Asia.

  5. Hi again Dave,

Sorry for the delayed response-I've been diving

Yes it is the one on the web site-Computrekker Plus AW

Mine does get really heavy-it is a struggle to carry it around making it look light so the check in staff don't weigh it!! So far so good though-they never have!

It does seeem that wheeled bags do get weighed more-I suppose the philosphy is that if it need wheels it must be heavier.

    I'm really happy with mine

    All the best

    Adam

  6. Thanks for all the info and feedback.

I feel MUCH better about the purchase.

Adam's comment about weighing wheeled bags fits my experience as well. Smaller airlines always weigh my rollers, though I have only had to pay extra for heavy one's twice...but that was before oil went crazy!

I have only been asked for weighing the backpack once.. they asked me to stand on the scale wearing the bag so they could know the plane weight. They did the same to all, weighing everyone and all bags but did not charge for overweight.

I can see it now.. Sir, I really do weigh 260 lbs even though I appear to be smaller than you.....its not the backpack, that is nearly empty... REALLY it is.

    Thanks again for the feedback.

Now I just need 'patiently' wait for the diving vacation to arrive.
