Scott - I have see the mandarin fish during day dive, but the mating only occur at the end of the day, usually between the 6 and 7 PM. The photo from the mandarin fish mating as taken in the house reef, diving from the pier.

Richard - In fact the photo you mencioned show an Elegant Squat Lobster (Allogalathea elegans) in association with a crinoid, taking their colour.
