Hi Steve,
It's a bit of an 'ask' to get one strobe to cover the W/A field.
I think that nearly all strobe manufacturers will say that their strobes will cover about 100-110 degrees with the diffusers in place.
110degrees of what, I don't know?
With careful strobe placement, I have seen some very beautiful images in the pages of this forum. I am no expert, by any means, but I think that you may be nearly limited to CFWA shooting until you can get the second strobe. That is, using the strobe to light something in the foreground, while ambient light takes care of the background. I know that others use this system to good use with the primary subject nearly exposed as macro and then the background is in focus and lit by the ambient light once again. . . .
I think (IMHO) that you will need a fairly strong light with a good set of batteries/battery pack. If you are constantly shooting w/a then you will more than likely be using full 'dumps' from your strobe. . . again with the diffuser in place to get the most spread possible.
I don't know that too many people have had too much w/a success with Ike's DS51. I know that its bigger brothers will handle the job. . . .
A LOT of shooters use, and stand by the outstanding capabilities of, the Inon range of strobes. My buddies use them, and I must agree!!!
I use S&S YS120's and they will certainly 'start a fire' under your w/a image...hehehe.
You should have realised by now, that there are no cheap options for our 'lifestyle'. Good strobes are going to cost. . . .
Usual releases/waivers signed. . . . IMHO.
