  1. Blennies have been everywhere in Florida lately.

Darkhead Blennies like to live in the tubes created (and then vacated) by Christmas Tree Worms or Feather Dusters. This guy is nicely framed up by his hole. Blenny itself was no bigger than 1/4"

  2. Hi Paul,

    You asked.

Out of focus and overexposed elements of the photo take away from the overall. I would crop in tighter on the blenny. Maybe even a vertical.

I understand that to get a good exposure on the black fish you had to use a lot of strobe power - so hopefully that will help you improve the photo.

    Cheers

    James

  3. Great subject, but the composition is a touch unauthordox...Were you resting the port on the coral in order to steady it?

Thanks I think. I have been experimenting with compositions, and this is one I am actually quite fond of personally.

James suggested I crop this vertical, which would give the more traditional composition. I absolutely agree with him that this would be nice composition. However I have been trying to be a little creative when a subject is cooperative.

Actually the coral head was very small and low on the ocean floor. It was also round so I could actually lie flat on the ocean floor and shoot directly at the blenny. The image actually came out very much like I had envisioned it.

Whether it works or not is up to the individual.

    :D
