Under the Portsea Pier - Melbourne

Hi Steve,
Nice pic mate. . .
The eyes of these blokes and the Warty Prowfish are way to similar to those of Anglerfish
for them not to be related somehow?
I will have to see Mark Norman or someone at the Museum and check out the 'relatives'. . . .
BTW, if you want to get a Warty Prowfish 'on film' have a close look at the Portsea side of Pope's Eye. . . ![]()

Steve,
Cute little bugger. Nice image.
Do you see many red velvetfish?
Regards
Nigel

Hey Nigel - Thanks for that. I have only ever seen one red velvet fish - that was about 10 years ago on the East coast of Tasmania.

That would be good to hear what the museum guys have to say on that Bruce (I agree they are very similar). Please feel free to use my picture to show the museum guys.
I would like to get a good shot of a warty prowfish so thanks for the tip - I havent dived at Popes Eye for ages.
Very cute; thanks for sharing.
Cheers,
Marli
Lovely portrait of a Velvetfish Stephen, love how you've captured the amazing texture of these
cryptic fish. I tried a number of times achieve a similar perspective but haven't cracked it yet,
paper thin DOF being my greatest hurdle. Bruce makes a very good point about the similarities
of the eye between those types of fish. After reviewing some of my own shots and flipping through
some of my reference books I can see quite a few similarities in their morphology.
Cheers,
Jim.

Hi Jim,
You didn't happen to find a link anywhere did you mate?
I've compared my pics of the 'Velvets' with the eyes of the Warty Prowfish and the Tasselled Anglerfish
and there are certainly similarities, as Jim says...
