Housing Modifications for S&S iTTL Converter

  1. I am hoping somebody can give me some advice on this one. I have searched the other posts on Wetpixel but nobody seems to have asked this question before.

I have had a Sea & Sea DX-D70 housing for my Nikon D70 for a couple of years and have just bought a Sea & Sea Mk. II iTTL converter for it.

The paperwork which came with the iTTL converter states that a modified strobe connection port is required for the converter to work with this housing but doesn't provide any further information. Sea & Sea don't list a modified strobe connection port as a part on their websites (UK, US & Japan) and don't list any further information.

Can anyone tell me what I need to do to make the iTTL converter work with this housing?

The DX-D70 has a single strobe connector on the top of the housing which only has two of the five pins wired through to the hotshoe connector inside the housing. Is the conversion as simple as connecting the other three pins the same way as the Sea & Sea housing for my F90X (N90S) or do I need to add further components such as blocking diodes?

Unfortunately, not that easy. You have to install a new bulkhead in your housing - the TTL converter cable has a different pin configuration a standard sync cord - if you try to plug it in to a standard bulkhead, you'll bend the pins. I don't have my housing handy (I'll check later) but I think the TTL bulkhead has 6 pins instead of 5 if I remember correctly. But I'm 99% certain the connectors aren't compatible.

No, Nikon housings/ttl cnvtrs are using 5 pins & you must be talking about Canon ttl cnvtr.

For nikon, just connect all five pins and it should work. The six pin thing is only for canon.
