Sipadan / Mabul

Quick question.

I am planning to go to Sipadan / Mabul in September. Does any one know if that is a good or bad time for diving weather wise or water wise

been theren in sept couple of yrs ago. circumstances were perfect. best to stay on mabul, first one/2 dives per day on sipadan, last dives on mabul. if you stay on sipadan they don't dive mabul most of the times. some pictures from my trip at

Probably too late, but I have been away (mostly, diving in Indonesia ) since exactly June 26 and didn't see the original post.

If you're going there and you still haven't booked, you really should consider Kapalai. From Kapalai you can also dive Sipadan (2 dives every morning, if you like) as it's only 20 minutes away. You can dive all the sites at Mabul (10-15 minutes away depending on which dive site) and Kapalai when you're not diving Sipadan.

Kapalai has a wonderful selection of critters.

I haven't stayed at Mabul so I don't know how the accomodation and food would compare.

I've seen the Kapalai resort from the outside and it's quite beautiful, but so is Sipidan Water Village on Mabul. I've stayed at SWV several times and it is fantastic. The divemasters and dive operations are excellent as well. I can't recommend SWV more strongly.

Since Kapalai and Mabul are close you'll get to dive both regardless of where you stay. I agree that it's best to stay there rather than on Sipidan Island. Last time I was there (Feb, 2003) the Kapalai sites were hopping with activity. That varies of course. Both resorts have a fantastic shore dive.
