off to anilao in 36 hours...

  1. I'm off to Anilao for a week and a half of critter finding, fast currents, nudibranch hunting, and dive site exploration. We're leaving los angeles in 36 hours.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for good conditions, lots of TRE's (target rich environments), and no equipment problems.

Staying at Club ocellaris, local base for several generations of famous branchers.

Having read many different reviews about the phillipines (mostly good reviews), it will be interesting to compare it to bali, lembeh, and bunaken. stay tuned for a complete report in 2-3 weeks.

Many thanks to everyone here on wetpixel who helped my with my dive site research over the last few weeks.

Let me know if anyone has any critter sightings or water temp experience from the last week or two.

    Scott

Oh, stop it with the baiting :)

Scott, you are going to have a great time and wanting to stay 2, 3, ... weeks. Some of my favs are Beatrice Rock, Sombreo, Barsura, and Twin Rocks (even w/o the whale shark).

    Regards,

  6. wow, just finished 46 dives in anilao with Peri at Club-O...it completely blew away our expectations..found critters I didn't even know existed. the 3 of us have been to Lembeh a total of 4 times, and we saw so much on this trip. the secret is now out - Anilao rocks.

2 rhinopia species, more frogfish, octo, squid, pipefish, cuttlefish, sea horse species than I can count, and the bobbit worm stories - wow. enough shrimps, crabs, nudibranchs to fill a book. exotic fish. beautiful reefs filled with fish. I don't think we stopped shooting the entire trip. We even had incredible wide-angle dives.

flying home tomorrow - I'll write up a proper report soon.

    Well, excuse me.......

but there has been at least one or two baby whale sharks reported to be there in the last few weeks. They are being reported on the "diversions" mailing list. Plus Peri has seen whale sharks there in the fall... While I haven't been lucky enough to see anything bigger than a small reef shark (and for a long time the biggest fish I saw was a baby bamboo shark) in my 8 visits to Anilao, there are plenty of folks who have seen the big shark there.

Scott, good to hear you had a good time! Had I know you were diving with Peri.... Did he take you to Mainit?

Mea cupa - I am just green with envy.
