  1. Several members expressed interest in my reaction to Cabo Pulmo. First, visit my website to see the images

The diving was unique. The panga operation by itself was worth the trip. Pushing boats around on the beach with a pickup truck in order to save the environment was a real disconnect.

The cabins were very hot, but the fans helped. I had no problem keeping my D125s, my computer and my wife's video equipment fully charged, even while doing 25 dives in 9 days.

The schooling fish are something else. Huge schools that do not spook when approached so a 10.5 mm lens can fill the frame.

The pangas were really hard on equipment. We lap carried/protected our cameras whenever the pangas were moving, and after we jumped out of the water to wade ashore, we had the cameras handed to us. The increased O-ring maintenance because of the sand in the surf zone was traded off against pounding the equipment while they beach the pangas.

Overall, this is a worthwhile site to visit. The schooling pufferfish evoked memories of the StarTrek episode "Trouble with Tribbles".

Free swimming morays were abundant - great for video.

All in all, a good trip

  2. Next time stay on the East Cape and dive with Mark at Vista Sea Sport he has nice boats and takes great care of you. The hotels are showing their age but Rancho Buena Vista Hotel is improving with new management. It has been cleaned up and is starting to turn the corner I have stayed there for 17 years and our last trip we had 30 people.
