In a couple of months I'm going to be doing some filming in shallow water which I then need to then edit and output as slowmo sequences. I was just wondering if anyone had any advice on what shutter speed and/or other settings that I should be looking to use? I wont have any access to editing software while shooting and I'd like to be as prepared as possible, so any help would be really appreciated.
Cheers, Simon
The easiest way is to shoot in 50i, deinterlace to 50P and slow down to 25fps for 25P. 50% in 3 steps.
The better software deinterlacer is Magic Bullet. Use After Effects is better than using a NLE.
As for settings, 2 schools. I like the look of using higher shutter speeds which allows cleaner captures for the frame blending. The other school shutter speed is slow so there's more motion blurring. I feel it's not as crisp but many like the motion.
Experiment and see which you like.
Hey Simon,
When I have recently done some slow mo stuff for a job I ended up bumping the shutter speed up to about 1/180 and shot in 50i and it looked ok.... I think if you have enough light you could maybe push it a little higher. I thought that the V1 had a Slo mo over crank thingy in it?
Jon
Thanks for the replies - it has given me a couple of pointers to start off with. There will be lots of light so I can certainly try to crank up the shutter speed.
Jon - the V1 slo mo crank thing is pretty cranky at best as it massively reduces the resolution captured. I've tried it out, but I'm really not happy with it so wanted to have another option I could go with.
