I've been watching the US news services and they're pretty weak when it comes to the Caribbean. Has anyone heard from folks on Grand Cayman? I saw the thread about the Brac resort being destroyed. My fingers are crossed for our friends there.

From what I can gather it is the sister Islands that are messed up.

I would have thought Little Cayman is worse off than the Brac, but stories like the dive shop being destroyed are all around. I have heard a lot of houses on the brac are messed up, the water treatment plant is severely damaged, and the shelter a lot of people were in had it's roof torn off !
Little Cayman got a much worse hit by the looks of the maps, and by all accounts is a much more penetrable island than the Brac. I can't imagine they got away as lightly as the thread above suggests. However that is what all reports are saying from the people on the island.
RFA Waveruler has been asked by the Governor to go and give humanitarian support.
Grand Cayman for the most part is doing fine. A little bit of a brush, so some flooding and winds. But everything seems to be getting back to normal.
Little Cayman and the Brac will definately need some time and lot and lots of work. I hope this doesnt effect any of the Dive businesses over there, but if they have to rebuild without income for several months you know it will.
I am sure many of us here have dived the Tibbets Destroyer and Bloody Bay wall ... lets hope we get to again sometime soon !
Dig into the http://stormcarib.com/ link in the above post. Lots of information within that link...
Hope everyone is OK!!! There are no nice hurricanes, they are always a PITA, at the best they are a major interruption to you life, at he worst - well don't want to go there...
I have heard that LIttle Cayman has lost most of the roofs of the building ... so i guess they haven't fared as well as I first heard.
I am not there, and would love to be to try and help, everything i have heard is not good.
We have a reservation at Little Cayman Beach Resort first of December. I talked with Mary this morning at Reef FantaSeas, booking agent for LCBR. She said they only sustained some roof damage to one of the wings that was closed and not being booked due to renovation of that wing anyway. She also said they're not taking any new reservations for the time period now through November 22nd...

Yeh LCBR was one of the first to report almost zero damage which I think lead to people thinking LIttle Cayman got away with it.
I'd love to know where they took their boats too or if they just survived in the lagoon (sound) there.
We WERE headed to Little cayman this coming saturday, but that is cancelled, as the LCBR is without power, and fligths on the twin otter to Little Cayman is restricted to tourists, last I heard.
As of yesterday, LBCR tells us they will reopen around the 22nd of Nov. Not major damage, just no power.
Our understaning is that Little Cayman fared much better than the Brac. The Brac was hit hard. Brac Reef lot roof on the main building. Twas the nature of the wind and storm surge I suspect.
Grand Cayman just flooding. They are all back up and running.
Check out this site. for info and link to some ariel pics on some of the links.

So...We'll.. we are headed to GC instead.. and will hang out there for the week. I hear all is well there. Guess we'll do stingray city, instead of Bloody Bay wall...
FYI, the last hurricane, in August I believe, the boats rode out the weather in the lagoon, I believe.
Within the aforementioned stormcaribe.com link is this video link, http://www.caymannetnews.com/, and within this link http://www.caymannewsservice.com/ you'll find this thread regarding Little Cayman, http://www.caymannewsservice.com/local-new...yman-good-shape
It would appear they are evacuating residents from both islands due to lack of accomodations for people.

I am not so sure Little Cayman did do that well .. but that one resort has been saying they had minimal damage since saturday.
Either way .. when tourists are allowed back I would imagine they will need guests ASAP .. so if you haven't been or haven't been in a while .. why not take a quick pop down to the islands for a bit.
