Amphibico vs Light & Motion

  1. Due to my rekindled interest in all things videoesque due to meeting up with Dean B at the UK dive show, I have a question.....

Has anyone ever compared the tactileness [sorry about that], of the amphibico manual focus control against the L & M control. The housing in question is for the FX1/Z1.

    Let the battle commence................................

All I can tell you is that using the amphibico housing with every kind of gloves and mitts, I never encounter any problems like non response of the control.

    Hope it helps

Haven't used the Amphibico housing but the L&M manual focus buttons are extremely difficult to use and probably the worst aspect of an otherwise pretty good housing. The setting changes very fast so it tends to undershoot or overshoot. Now the only time I use them is when shooting macro and, say the auto-focus is focussing on the background, I will go manual to get the focus near to the range of my subject, switch back to auto-focus so it locks onto the subject precisely, then switch back to manual focus with the momentary auto-focus control so the auto-focus doesn't drift back to the background.

Shooting wide I tend to use auto-focus a lot but in low-contrast situations i'll go manual by pointing at a subject in the right sort of range and locking it with momentary auto-focus. Those near/far buttons don't have the precision to finely adjust the focus in a wide-angle situation.

  4. To be honest it's hard to be a nice big clunky knob that is geared directly to the camera's focus ring. My Gates VX1000 housing had this. It was so great for finely tuning the focus. How do the Amphibico dials compare to that?
