Flip Mino HD :)

  1. The Flip Mino HD was announced today.

    Flip HD

Okay, probably not going to be high on the quality scale, at 9.00 Mbps H.264 recording it is kind of close on calling it HD, but it is still kind of neat gizmo. Claims to be good in low light.

Now if they make an underwater housing for it, could be a cool little back up :)

    Old Flips

There is a link to lSome video clips, so the old ones are not perfect.

But still kind of fun to think about.

  2. The original Flip is excellent in low light. I prefer it in low light over my Sanyo Xacti HD700, which is great in good light, but TERRIBLE in low light. I am excited to see whether the Flip HD's low-light claims are truthful. :)

Interesting, I actually have not played with one of these yet. Some of these small guys, like the Sanyo and the Bonica, have started coming along. Last year at BTS there was some good stuff with the recent Bonica...came very close to picking one up, just because it was so small (I had tried one of the Sanyos, non-HD, a couple of years back and it really underperformed, rented one for a couple of days, so it could have been the set-up.)

And if the Flip does improve on the low light, like some of the other smaller things such as the G9, it could be something to throw in the bag based on size, weight and cost.

Some of the video did not look great on the links, but it sounds like it does better than shown there from what you are saying?

  4. It is worth noting a similar camcorder from Creative Labs called Vado. I got the first revision and enjoyed it a lot - cheap, simple and cheerful - perfect for posting short small video clips on my blogger page. A friend send me a link to these videos

taken with, apparently, a new Vado, with HD quality. There are a good few clips on vimeo so you can judge the video quality in various light conditions, I have to say I am quite impressed and probably gonna give the old Vado to the kids now :)

  5. New models came out a few days ago. I wonder how tough it would be to create a custom housing that would go to 200ft. I mean, it's just a push button, it wouldn't need to do anything else. It could even be a helmet cam. Thoughts ?
