Sony P10 with YS25auto, any comments?

  1. I've recently bought a Sony P10 plus the marinepack. Is seriously considering to buy Sea & Sea YS25auto strobe to complement the package. Is it a good idea? Any comments whatsoever is appreciated.... Its even better if someone can send me some samples of picture taken with Sony's Cybershot series with the same strobe!

  2. I just went through this sony / strobe thing a few months ago and after speaking to many and posting many I received very little. It seems people stay away from sony with underwater photography. I have looked at several sites and found few which use the sony p series with marine pack. I needed a camera for use on the surface which was small enough to put on my belt and was of the highest quality MP wise. I wanted a camera for use in both worlds and the sony products are relaible. Sorry I will get to the point... The marine pack is a bit weak and requires gental handleing. I think sony designed it for basic use. I have the sea and sea wide angle lens and the external 2t macro i snap over it. I bought the sea and sea ys90dx (manual) with fiber optic cable and it works great. The ys90 gives a wider beam angle then the 25 and punches out alot more for just a slightly higher price. The 90 can be used with several different cameras including SLR. Get the 90 especially if you want to add a 20mm wide angle lens the added wider beam angle with the 90 is a must. Go to my site at http://www.americandivemaster.com 90 percent of the pics were taken with the p-9 which is crap! and the p-1 and p-10 with strobe. Click on the link at the bottom of the center page and look for gear and camera setups and read my description and pics. I am just starting and am not obsessed but getting there with underwater digital photography. Look on my East timors underwater world page 5 and 6 they were taken with the p-10 on manual settings with ys90. Dont forget light has allot to do with your pics coming out but photoshop or MGI will fix much of it. Only a few of my pics have been cleaned up or enhanced most are just cropped to save time.

    hope this helps

  3. I have the Sony DSC-P5 and correcponding MPK-P5. I was suggested the Epoque 150 strobe over the YS-25. It arrived today and i am off quarry diving tomorrow and sea diving over the weekend - i'll let you know how i get on.

  4. Well, the Epoque strobe did not last Tuesday evening.

Batteries in, red ready light on, with pre-flash - nothing, without pre-flash - cool!

Tried it again when the ready light came on - nothing - not even for the manual test...

Flash went back to supplier and i learnt that they have 3 others on the service guy's desk :)

I used my Kowalski 1250 torch with frosted glass to diffuse the beam - variable success.

I found the pictures came out darker on the PC than they looked on the camera display.

    - would show you if i could attach an image....
