O-Ring Lubrication

  1. Hello all,

I just purchased an Ikelite housing for my Cannon 20D and was wondering if it is imperative that I use only Ikelite brand silicon on the O-Rings or can I use another brand (like Inon which are my strobes or Olympus which is my old camera).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Many Thanks,

    Gil

  2. Try a search on this website for molykote and another for o-ring and several threads will provide some answers for you.

Gil, I also purchased an Ikelite housing and strobe this year. I use Ikelite brand. Nikonos brand and a brand named Global purchased at my dive shop. Do not use spray silicon of any type. I have been using different silicons since my original Nikonos II in 1970 without any problems. Purchase silicon for O rings at Adorama or B&H photo. Hope this helps Hank

  4. Thank you both for your replies.

  5. In some places on the Ikelite web site and their manuals they say "Use only Ikelite brand silicon lubricant...". But it's not a global statement on their website since in other places they just say " Please note that some lubricants may cause the Ikelite "O" rings to soften ..." without adding use Ikelite only.

I tend to stick with their product based on the first recommendation.
