Afetr my first Rajah Ampat trip, I stopped in at KBR for a few days on the way back to Singapore. Thought I'd try out my new 100mm which I bought just for this trip. I found it much trickier than a 60mm, especially in murkier water, but I started to get the hang of it. Here are some results:
Some sensational shots in yourt Raja and Lembeh collections posted today. Well done
Thanks! Lots to learn (hence the hanging out on Wetpixel), but I think I'm starting to get a clue...
You are definately gettgin it Phil - and what a place to learn the craft.
I did a lot of learning when i visited the pearl farm at Raja Ampat last year. I had only done three dives with my D200 kit before i went over there! Here is a link to my images from that trip if you want to look (I hope you dont mind me posting a link - let me know and I can remove if you want)
I remember that I got so frustrated using a single strobe I picked up a cheap second one in Bali on the way over, but when i got there I couldnt use it because the sea and sea arm set didnt adapt properly to my aquatica housing. Whoops!
It was only by chance that the Cheng Ho stopped off at the pearl farm for a look on my third day there and some very generous person on board gave me the vital screw that let me fashion together a connection to my housing. You meet the nicest people when diving. Wide angle stuff got a bit easier once I got the second light source fired up.
Cheers
Steve
Nice collection. 6753 is a favourite. 7038 is one coll looking fish!
Way to go Phil! Looks like you have the 100mm smokin. Absolutely love the froggy portrait. How the rest of your gear do on the long trip?
Steve
Well you certainly has some lovely critters to shoot, and it produced some great shots, the 100 is a nice lens to play with. Good stuff!
Great work Phil, I love the Froggie face and the front-on shot of the Ceratosoma tenue is awesome
but hey my favorite colour is orange so perhaps I'm a little biased towards those shots
Cheers,
Jim.
Absolutely gorgeous.
Thanks everyone!
Steve, all the gear worked great. Except the one dive in Lembeh where I didn't get the hot shoe connector seated quite right, didn't triple check, and got down and had no flash. I figured "Oh well, it's just one dive" - which is of course when we saw MATING blue ring octopi. I love u/w photography! Guess it just means I have to go back
