AE export workflow suggestions please

  1. hi all,

i've been playing around with after effects recently and getting some decent results, except that...the workflow is driving me mad.

here's what i'm doing...exporting a sequence from premiere, then into AE to apply effects, but i'm getting lost on how to export that

back into my timeline in premiere, as in..what do i render out as?? if a clip is getting exported, imported, altered, exported, then imported

again to finally be rendered out...there has to be some degradation of quality as it's all compressed data in the first place.

what rendering options do i apply to keep any image degradation to a minimum whilst maintaining height/width ratios....??

also, can you recommend a good codec for web viewing HDV footage. i was using DivX but lost interest with user compatible player requirement.

    hope you can help.

    thanks,

    mark.

There are intermediate codecs like Cineform, ProRes and DnX. That's the biggest issue with PP as a NLE, there's no support of HD formats pass HDV. I suggest just convert to uncompressed 8 bit on capture and edit/render in that format if you want to maintain "losslessness"(is that a word?).

Search the forum regarding using Flash as a web codec.

  3. Premier Pro CS4 will now work with AVCHD, HDV, P2 and Adobe is currently working Red Cinema to develop a plug in which would enable Premier Pro and After Effects editors to edit with Red's R3D camera raw files. This plug in is not included in any of the Adobe suites but it is on the near horizon.
