Active Underwater Lava Flows

3 posts
  1. I am currently doing some research on behalf of an underwater filming company in Malaysia into the

location of active underwater lava flows/eruptions around the world.

Is anyone able to provide me with any up to date information about this subject please?

I understand that that biggest underwater lava flow is at

Kilauea in Hawaii, but I'm wondering if there are any

other active underwater lava flows at other places around the world?

Possibly in the Galapagos islands or Icelane, or anywhere else?

I would be really grateful if you could offer any advice or point me

in the direction of any forums or websites on this matter.

    Thanks!

    Helen

I hope you are not trying to dive in active lava floating area, I don't think they allow or have trips in those situation/location anyway.

We had a dive in Kumodo Indonesia last year where the hot air/bubbles release from underneath and that was a trip/dive. It's like diving in sparkling water ! and the area was particularly warmer too. I think Lembeh has dive site like that too. Will dive Galapagos next month and will report back what I see after.

  3. No lava, but Dominica has a few dive sites with air bubbles and hot water vents as well (Champagne). Saba has some hot sands and sulfurous areas, but no gas escaping that I recall.

Might be some u/w lava flows around some of the Sicilian/Aeolian islands - there's a couple pretty continuously active volcanos there. I don't think Stromboli's flow hits the sea, but Vulcano's might.
