NEED IKE SMART CHARGERS!!

11 posts
  1. I just arrived in La Paz, Mexico....and found that my luggage was BRUTALIZED (all handles broken off, crease-marks indicating that each suitcase was bend in half (!), dents all over surfaces, broken lock, etc.) on the way here. Whatever caused this damage also crushed various contents into expensive electronic pancakes, including my beloved smart chargers for my DS125s.

Is there anyone in mexico reading this that can help me out???

  2. Hi Keri,

Sounds like your bag got run over by the cart. ;) Sorry you had a bad day. I did a quick search on the internet and came up with the Cortez Club Dive Center, PADI five star and they advertise a Photography and video center. They are at the La Concha Beach Resort, Carretera a Pichilingue Km. 5 Tel: +52 612 12 16120. Might be worth a phone call.

How long will you be there in town? Do you have time to get the guys in san Diego fired up to send you a care package? Tom Harmon is with Marine Camera mcd2000@marinecamera.com

    Good luck

  3. Thanks for your help Steve! I just gave that local number a call, but of course the man I need to speak to isn't around... I also tried contacting several places from the Ikelite dealer listing, but it's 10:00am right now, and I'm told this is too early to be surprised by a lack of response.

Regarding shipping from San Diego...I looked into fedex-ing a package, and the quickest service would get it here on Thursday....just in time for me to leave on Friday (7 nights total). Before you ask why I came out here for only 7 days, I should mention that: (1) I am poor, and (2) this was my prize from LAUPS last year.

Fingers, toes, and eyes are crossed.....

  4. What airline did you fly on?

  5. Most of the airlines do same day cargo service.

  6. This no longer belongs in "Classifieds" (DIY? Travel?) ;)

I flew with Mexicana and AeroMexico. Bags were checked all the way through from Toronto, so who knows where my bags went for their wild ride. Don't ask me how my dome port came out of the ordeal UNSCRATCHED though, that just blows my mind...

Anyways, my crisis has been averted thanks to good ol' Radio Shack:

2 x Ni-Cd/Ni-MH battery chargers (matching specs of the ike charger) = $11.50 each

2 x compatible male adapter-tips for insertion into ike battery pod = $2.75 each

    1 x multimeter = $7.25

    total cost? $36!

They work like a charm (well...the battery indicator shows full, and nothing has exploded....YET) :)

Whooo hooo! Time for a Grande Margarita. Good luck!

  8. I dive La Paz every August.

Where did you find a Radio Shack down there?

  9. Thanks for moving the thread Dave.

The Radio Shack here is aptly named... it's not a whole lot bigger than a shack I have in my backyard in Toronto :P

From Carlos'n Charlies (center of town, as I'm sure you know), you walk away from the coast (southeast?) 3 blocks, and you'll see it hidden on the left. What a life saver that place is.

Whooo hoooo is right! But I think I'll have to go with MUCHO GRANDE! :) Too bad I've literally got NO ONE here to hang around with. There are only 2 other people at the resort (non-divers), and they keep to themselves. There's no question that this is the low season around here.

  10. We charter the Don Jose for a week each year. Best way to dive La Paz. Ask for Josie as your dive master (visual treat and a great guide). Peter is really good but you loose the visual.

We usually spend a couple days at a hotel as well.

LaPaz is a much better Baja visit than going to Cabo.

Haven't heard of the Don Jose, but the next time I come down here I'll check them out.... and maybe even join your charter! I've enjoyed this week alone at Club Cantamar so much, that I've actually decided to extend the trip by another week. I was just shown some videos from last week of large schools (50+) of hammerheads at "El Bajo" way up north, so want to try my luck up there.

Why, may I ask, do you say La Paz is a better visit to Baja than Cabo? Do you mean from a diving perspective, general atmosphere, etc? I've never been to this area, so am curious about your comment for the next time I come to this area.

(thread title should probably be something about diving in La Paz, wish I knew how to fix that)
