Sanyo Enloops in Inons

  1. Hi guys,

Quick question. Anyone know how many dives you can expect to get out of a set on Sanyo Enloop batteries before needing to rechange them, in Inon Z240's? I dive most weekends, so my gear pretty much stays together, and obviously dont need to charge them after every dive, but of course the last thing I want is for them to die mid dive.

    Thanks in advance!

    Ryan.

  2. Highly dependent on how many photos you take and what strobe power settings you use. On my Wakatobi trip in October I was easily getting three 70+ minute dives out of set taking around 60 shots per dive. Using my pulse load battery tester there was 20-40% charge left after the three dives. Diving around here on Ningaloo I've had them last for four dives spread over a weekend with longer dive times and more shots taken per dive but the batteries didn't have lot left in them when I tested them with the battery tester afterwards.

  3. Cheers Gudge. Think the best bet might be to get a battery tester then! I think they've just gone 4 dives without a charge, will have to put them in before tomorrow.

  4. I recently dove in Sulewesi shooting a couple of hundred shots per day and no problem. I routinely change batteries after each day of diving, my dive buddy changes after each dive claiming better recycle time. I really did not notice a proble with recycle times

I shoot using the sea and sea ttl converter so does he.

  5. i like to start each day with fully charged eneloops in my z240s, have never had a need to recharge them before bed-time.

  6. I have Z240 strobes. I change the batteries every 5 or 6 dives when shooting macro. If I don't use the modeling lights at all, I don't have a problem. If I use the modeling light in one strobe occasionally, then I have had that strobe die during the 6th dive. I average 60+ shots per dive.

  7. FWIW, our INON distributor has used ordinary NiMh in his type III without any issues. I can't imagine my son will be using anything other than our stock of 2500 mHr NiMhs in his type IIIs either. We get three 60 minutes dives out of a set.

    I do exactly the same,

During the Epson Red Sea shoot-out I was getting up to 350 shots a day (same set of Eneloops, 4 dives) with various power settings on the Z240 lll's and not seeing any downturn in performance.

I don't use the LED focus lights at all.

FWIW I scrapped all my other NiMh batteries in favour of the Sanyo's I think they're 'king brill !!!! ;)

  9. I lasts plenty. I have not seen a real diff to my previous NiMh batteries.

Just a point about Inons and Eneloops; my understanding is that Inon recommends these primarily because they generate less heat during use, possibly resulting in less potential damage to the strobe.

  11. Thanks guys!

Oh, and I got the Enloops because I needed to buy rechargables anyway, so thought I may as well get the reccomended type!

  12. It is true that Inon recommends the Eneloops for the latest version of Z240. Think that it was mainly due to the pilot light.

I blew a Z240, by using 2700mAh NiMh batteries about 1.5-2 years ago. I was told that it was stated somewhere in the Manual that 2700mAh was too much. I think that 2500mAh was max. I ended up getting it replaced anyway ;)

    Cheers,

    Erik

  13. I used to reckon on about 200-250 flashes from NiMH in an Inon Z220, and now get about 300-350 from "Eneloop"-type batteries in an Inon Z240 (although I rarely use full power). True Sanyo "Eneloop" batteries no longer seem to be on sale in the UK, but the Amsmann equivalents are.

One of the chaps at Cameras Underwater told me he was putting 3500 NiMhs in his Z-240. Seems excessive to me when you can shoot all day on a set of 2500's...

I think he was pulling your leg. I am pretty sure that there are no 3500 MAH AA rechargeables out there. Might be, but I am very skeptical.
