I've been using a INON UWL-100 and dome unit for a while on my Ike housed G9 and I've always shot on 'normal' focus mode. On CFWA shots I've noticed poor DOF despite an aperture of f8. W/a shots are pin sharp at minimum zoom setting.
Yesterday I was browsing the INON Amica www site and happened on the dome unit manual:
The manual advises that with the dome, camera settings should generally be set on macro and specifically identifies some compacts, but not the G9.
Can I get a 'take' from other G9, UWL-100 and dome unit users out there?

I actually set my G9 on macro focus as the default when underwater ... don't have the dome, but I generally find that since I'm generally looking to focus on something between 1 inch and three feet away, macro is a better starting point for the auto-focus.
I even leave it in macro when shooting video.
The only other technique I use is to leverage the hyperfocal distance and set the camera at a fixed focus of about 24 inches. When doing so, almost everything from about 18 inches and beyond is in focus without any wasted time achieving focus lock. I tend to do this more with video than stills.
Hi Jeremy,
Unless I were shooting CFWA, at 1 inch to 3 feet distance I'd be using a UCL or two in which case I'd be on the 'normal' focus setting and letting the glass do the work.
When shooting CFWA (UWL-100 and dome) with grey seals recently I've been playing with the AF lock (page 123 / 124) which reduces shutter lag significantly but I'm still not happy with the DOF (at f8) or sharpness.
I'd like to hear from anyone who used their G9, UCL-100 and dome on a macro setting whether CFWA or W/A. Does the little INON dome project a virtual image which needs to be considered by shooting on the macro setting?
And INON Japan have said to me that the UWL-100 and dome will not work with the G9
