Patima G9 buoyancy problem

  1. I’m struggling with the weight of a Patima G9 housing. The weight underwater with one Inon strobe and a Inon UWL-100 lens is noticeable, 1 kg (2 lbs) or more. Do you know what these floats are, and if they would help, i.e. are they non-compressible (from the newest issue of Uwpmag):

Alternatively, or in addition, could this work (Stix float belt):

  2. I have tried some Stix floats on my 8" strobe arms and they help. I used the LARGE size but that was not enough, I should have used the larger size. I have the OEM housing for the G9, which is lighter than your housing so seems the largest size would be better for you as well.

Not certain the stix belt would work for you. If I recall what I have seen photographed, the belt fits on SLR housing ports, which would make it perhaps difficult to fit on your housing. I have not seen the stix belt in person.

    Hope that is some help.

The ones that works well though lack in looks are the smaller marine buoys used in fishing nets. Different sizes to play wiith

  4. You can try insulationfoam that is used for warmwater or househeating piping, comes in internal sizes from 20-50mm.

    Very cheap and very buoyant

  5. Hi,

should know. There are 2 different size & small size BC are used for DSLR & is

good enough for G9 housing. You can find more info when you do search in dslr

    section.

    And it compresses with depth.

    Go with the Stix!

  7. Hi,

We are talking about G9 not d-slr, right ? I do not think there is room to put any foam

and I will not try to play with any thing on the little Patima port as it might cause the leak.

This recent picture with dslr shows how Patima BC bag works. She is shooting Nexus d300

housing + 2 Z240 in one hand & it hangs in the middle of setup & does not interfare with

your shooting. It collaps but maintain buoyance like your BC does.

Your Patima dealer should have more info but, PM me if you want to try it before buy.
