Lembeh Strait Photo Workshops on Demand

  1. Hello All

If anyone has been wondering why i have been so scarce on here recently it is due to a new job in Lembeh Strait Indonesia.

Proud to announce that myself and Simon Buxton have taken over the management of a small resort in Lembeh Strait called NAD Lembeh Resort. For more info on the resort itself please visit the website www.nad-lembeh.com

We are in the midst of designing and building a new photo and computer room, this will be built in January.

We will be regularly organizing and conducting underwater photography workshops throughout 2009.

For those of you whose schedules won't work for one of our future workshops, not to worry! We will be available for personal one on one or small group photo classes pretty much every day of the year.

We are taking an active role in training our dive guides (through hiring an experienced Indonesian diving instructor to provide top notch training for all of our staff) to work with and provide fantastic support for photographers and videographers who demand a high quality and experienced dive guide.

For those of you who aren't interested in formal classes and are just looking for a comfy and photo friendly resort for great diving at a good price we offer that too!

  2. Great news! And congrats on the new role.

  3. I am sure all the hard work will pay off Mike.

I really liked the atmosphere that NAD had when I was there this year. The sun setting between the two volcanoes is amazing ! I am really tempted to re visit NAD next year so will let you know. Are the rates going up at all from this years. When we were there, there was a small speed boat that was going to be used for 1 guide to 1-2 diver/s, did it ever get an engine. What about your ideas for a camera room, did you get one sorted.

keep up your hard work, Stew

  4. Hey Mike,

Congrats on the new position. How many divers does your new resort hold? How many to a skiff? Most importantly, the quality and expertise of the spotters is paramount for bringing groups over. Nus and Ali, now over at Kasawari and formerly KBR, had set an extremely high standard.

  5. If the guides are the same as when I was there they were on par with the guides at KBR. I actually had the same guide at NAD as I did when I was at KBR a few years ago, Rudi. I had a wish list of 12 critters and he failed by one, which as far as I am concerned is exceptional. He moved over from KBR along with another guide. From my experiences I would go back to NAD but not KBR. Not that I had a bad time at KBR I had a great time, but the price difference was large. Thats why I asked about rate changes in my previous post. Kasawari did look very nice and I have heard nothing but good things about it. The guide to diver ratio was 4 to 1, which was good and we more or less dived solo until he had found a critter. for me the only downside to the resort would have been the accommodation if I hadnt upgraded to one of the Minahassa bungalows. Not as big as the bungalows at KBR but very nice none the less. I cant wait to see some recent photos of NAD to see what has been done. The house reef is no way comparable to KBR's but then not many are along the strait.

HI Steve, yes, Lembeh sure is an interesting place! We have 10 rooms and 2 bungalows so max out at 24 guests. We currently have 3 boats and should have a 4th in the water soon, (the one Stew mentions, hopefully by mid Jan) we will use it as a private boat for those folks who want their own boat and guide for the day, easy for folks to set their own schedule and go whereever they want for as long as they want.

Our guides are pretty top notch, 3 of them are well known in the area and get constant kudos from photographers. Our top instructor/guide is currently training 3 others in the ways and means of what photographers want. And of course Simon and I are there to help them out in this regard as well.

Camera room construction starts in the beginning of January. Shouldnt take long as that will be our pet project

Rates have gone up slightly, the 2009 rate sheet is available on the web site :D

    Mike

  7. Well I'm really looking forward to our stay (13th Jan to 27th Jan)

See you on the 13th Mike.
